Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) makes pregnancy possible for many cases of male infertility, therefore at our hospital, we first recommend ICSI be carried out if even one of the husbands sperm can be acquired. ICSI would be performed following a testis biopsy to check the condition of the inside of the testis and to look for the presence of sperm or late-staged spermatids. When no other treatment options are available, and after the results of this testicular examination has found no sperm or late-staged spermatids, then the use of donor semen could be considered. Artificial Insemination with donor semen is an insemination procedure using sperm from someone other than the husband. This option is considered when for one reason or another it is impossible for the wife to get pregnant with the husband's sperm. Donors are chosen from young healthy males who have no previous history of STDs such as venereal disease, HIV etc..., no known hereditary diseases, and have semen that is proven to be highly fertile. It should be noted that if a baby is born using donated semen, it still will be formally recognized as the couple's own child.
